Day 10 - Tre-Le-Champ - Le Brevent Today offered a special treat, because after we traversed a series of switchbacks up 500m / 1,640’ or so, we had to climb a series of vertigo-inducing metal ladders, which the book described as endless. We took our time getting to the ladders, not wanting to be tired as we climbed. We sat and took in the view just before starting our assault. They really weren’t horrible, considering how flimsy similar setups were on other treks. The only real issue was the weight of our packs pulling our bodies away from the ladder. We took one ladder at a time until we got through all eleven of them. We appeared to be done, except perhaps a small climb uphill, which turned into a series of false summits as we wound around and around. There were two more small ladders and some additional climbing, but we reached the top without any incident and, of course, took a nice break. Shortly down the trail from there a baby goat appeared. Oddly, it wasn’t spooked by us at all. Separating from Jennifer, I followed it around and it led me literally down the goat path where I met up with Papa goat.
