Laugavegur/Landmannalaugar Trek, Iceland - Day by Day Account We did manage to cross a river or two on a bridge. A seldom enjoyed luxury on this trail. The rare "street sign" pointed you in the right direction. In foggy conditions it is easy to lose your way. Sadly we would pass the occasional marker to an unfortunate hiker(s) that strayed from the path without the proper gear and died of hypothermia while the search teams were looking for them. It's sometimes too easy to forget how fragile your life can be. It seemed like there were endless river crossings now and these were not gaiterable. While we didn't find the streams as something to look forward to, there were others that actually searchd out the stream crossings as an adrenaline charged highlight. (See below). Once past the river we continued along. I can't say enough how enjoyable it is to walk on relatively flat soft ground. Articulate mountain guide Jon Gauti woudl frequently stop and explain the science and history pertaining to the local landscape. In the evening, if you could call it that since the sun never really set, we did a short hike to what I believe was called Markarfljotsgljufur Gorge. Jon Gauti was quite the comedian and he turned my group against me. He told me to look left after secretly telling the rest of the group to look right. Oh Jon Gauti, you will get yours, my good friend. :) The story continues...
