Trekking in Jordan - Day by Day Account - Wadi Rum Continued The next day started with excitement we really didn’t want, one of the trucks wouldn’t start. Sadly, jump starting it didn’t help either. Watching the crew back the vehicle out in the sand and get it moving fast enough to roll start it. Not an easy task given the sand. We started our morning hike in the cool shadow of the brownish-red stone walls. The air was cool and the land flat. We all enjoyed the leisurely stroll. The rock in the early morning light was simply breathtaking.
Add a few camels and an incredible treat was set. We stopped for a break under a mushroom rock and then were driven to our lunch spot. However, we had another short hike to a land bridge that Ray first claimed would take an hour. Then it was an hour and a half. RST or Ray Standard Time wasn’t always the most accurate, but when he said something was worth the hike, he was always right. So we set across the valley and then up into the rocks to climb Burdha Bridge. Little did we know it was actually an hour and a half rock scramble. Great fun, but a bit harrowing. We wound our way up, with a few people peeling off and waiting at different points. I decided against the last climb up a rope as did another in our group. Still it was great fun and provided fabulous views of the diverse desert landscape. While down is usually much harder, we actually descended quite easily. When we got back to the best viewing spot, we broke out the wedding dress and took a few snaps for One Dress, One Woman, One World. Then it was all business getting back for lunch. Next stop was our campsite for the night, another amazing plateau. Tired of Michael’s antics, we decided to tie him to the truck. Perhaps we should have left him there? After setting up camp, we took another ride to another cool land bridge (Umm Frus Bridge). Most of us climbed to the top and got a few group photos before heading back for dinner.
We hoped to set up a cool moon shot, but our astronomy was way off. The moon rose much later than expected and not even close to where we thought it should pop up. The story continues... This trip was organized by Discover Jordan. We can not praise them enough. If you are considering a trip to Jordan, please reach out to them. They were wonderful to work with an exceeded all of our expecations!
