Trekking in Jordan - Day by Day Account - Dead Sea Sunrise from our perch of a campsite was awesome. The light changed quickly, so if you were slow out of "bed," you missed the peak of the beauty. Ray talked about hiking the highest peak in Jordan, we were having none of it. We knew the day would end at the Dead Sea and staying in a five star hotel. Ray was in total disbelief that our dress could survive the high salt content of the Dead Sea. Our goal was to get up early and high tail it to the hotel for a little rest and relaxation in comfort. Unfortunately our group moved slowly, very slowly. We finally got out of camp and on the road, but every time we stopped for gas, the bathroom, or any reason, it was like herding sheep. You’d think people would realize there were better things to see than in a convenience store. The drive was long even without the stops and we didn’t arrive until just after 3. The afternoon light was already diminishing as the clouds rolled in. Our patience wasn’t helped by an excessively long check in. Exacerbating our distress was the hotel’s policy to confiscate alcohol. This was not for religious reasons, but for pure capitalistic greed. They wanted to sell you alcohol. We finally got to our room, which was lavish and contained a large private balcony. However, by the time we got to the Dead Sea the light was horrible. We rushed to get a photograph in for One Dress, One Woman, One World. Success was achieved in that we got a shot, but we could have done much better with any kind of light. We did not however test the dress against the rejuvenating powers of the Dead Sea mud. We left that to the boys! We then scurried up to the outdoor showers to get the mineral deposits off the dress, batted it down with towels, rang it out, and hung it to dry. Amazingly, as expected, the dress survived! We then headed back down to actually enjoy the Dead Sea and were greeted with a red flag. The poor weather closed the beach. I couldn’t believe it. The “waves” were barely noticeable. Dejected, we collected some mud and headed back to the room to shower for dinner. I then headed to the manager and kindly requested our alcohol back. Kindness paid off and he returned it to us. Sadly we were so exhausted we barely ate anything, took two sips of our drinks and went to bed with an early wake up call to fly home. The trip completely exceeded all expectations and we would highly recommend a trip to Jordan for anyone and we would definitely tell you to book with Discover Jordan! Return to Jordan Homepage. This trip was organized by Discover Jordan. We can not praise them enough. If you are considering a trip to Jordan, please reach out to them.
