Day 8 - Champex - Alp Bovine - Col de la Forclaz We hit the trail by 7:30 am, expecting the day to be moderately challenging. For the first hour or so we gradually descended through a forest, but with no sun shining on us, it was a bit chilly. One cool aspect of the trail was the not-so-random clumps of wildflowers. Whenever there was a hole in the canopy for the sun to shine through, the wildflowers capitalized on the light source and erupted. Most of the climb wasn’t very dramatic offering seldom views. A few stream crossings broke up the trail and as we approached our maximum elevation for the day, it flattened out into a gigantic meadow strewn with wildflowers galore and the view of distant mountains rising above them.
