Mount Fitzroy Trek - Hiking from Campamento De Agostini to El Chalten

Horns were honking before it was light. I was having flashbacks to my trip to Ecuador where we were awoken all night by a bus honking to pick up workers. Suddenly, I realized it was pouring out and our tent was soaked. Kirk and I looked at each other in amazement as we heard a voice over a megaphone, "Flash flood, You must get on the bus!" We scrambled to pick up our camera and opened the tent flap to see a school bus approaching. "What the F*ck?" Then I woke up. Damn melatonin I took to sleep has a side effect of giving you strange dreams, but I never experienced anything like that before. Strange thing is Kirk had a similar dream. It must have been the sound of the river affecting our subconscious.

Once we realized camp wasn't washing away, we grabbed our camera equipment and headed towards our viewpoint. The sun was just rising behind us and gave us some nice light on the Cerro Torre and Laguna Torre.

After a few photographs, we decided to walk around the lake to see if we could get another new of Cerro Torre. Unfortunately, the clouds rolled in pretty quickly and we headed back to camp. As we did, a group of glacier walkers came by. To hike on a glacier around Cerro Torre, you were required to cross the river via a harness and slide down over a wire. We decided to hang out and watch. Those that had strength, looked like they had great fun crossing the river. Others got stuck midway across and had great difficulty getting across. One guy, didn't secure his stuff very well and his lunch and other belongings fell off and floated quickly downstream.

Once the group got over the river, we walked back to camp and packed up. The walk back was breathtaking, but in the wrong direction. The really good views were behind us most of the way back. After a few hours of walking, and more than a few stops to take in the view, the once bleak looking El Chalten appeared before us. With the sun shining behind us, the town looked inviting. It was readily apparent from the side that we approached from that the town was booming with construction. Seems that we were not the only ones believing that Mount Fitzroy was a great trek.
