Milford Trek, New Zealand - From Clinton Hut to Mintaro Hut
Peering through the trees we were able to get peeks at the roaring Clinton River. Waterfalls gushed uncontrollably out of every crevice of landscape. Unfortunately, given the gray sky it wasn’t picturesque. Covered by a giant fog bowl we arrived at the hut after five hours, an hour faster than scheduled. Not taking heaps of photographs did wonders for our walking schedule. The DOC staff manning the huts had a great sense of humor. Hell, one would have to given the amount of rain they put up with. We were not amused at the Mintaro Hut's cartoon of a trekker with a snorkel under the flood waters. Compounding our apprehension were posters on the wall explaining every cloud type. We did not take it as a good sign.
Attempting to stay dry was futile. Still, we tried each night to rid our clothes of as much moisture as possible. The story continues...
