Gear Heads - Sleeping Bag

There are two broad categories of sleeping bags: down and synthetic. They each have their advantages. A down bag is lighter and will generally keep you warmer, however, when they get wet, they take a long time to dry out. Also, while they remain damp they lose a lot of their insulation value. In contrast, a synthetic bag is much less expensive and dries out quickly when wet. When selecting a bag, also pay attention to the temperature rating. We own multiple sleeping bags and take the one most appropriate for the expected nighttime temperatures. If predicted temperatures range wildly, bringing a sleeping bag liner gives you added flexibility.
